About this event

We are delighted to welcome Reece to Trelissick for a day of sculptural creativity in clay, inspired by the beauty and character of our feathered friends.

In this workshop, you will create two bird sculptures in stoneware clay, each roughly blackbird-sized.

Working with two different methods for forming your initial shapes, you will then refine and develop them, adding unique details such as feather textures, markings, and patterns. To bring your sculptures to life, you will explore ways of applying underglaze slip in colour, experimenting with different approaches to achieve your own style.

Reference images will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own, perhaps a favourite garden bird or a species with personal meaning. Throughout the day, Reece will guide you with tips, techniques, and encouragement, creating a relaxed and supportive space to experiment and enjoy the process.

Once complete, your birds will be taken away to be kiln-fired. They will be ready for collection from the gallery approximately four weeks after the workshop, ready to take pride of place in your home or garden.

This workshop is open to all abilities whether you are new to clay or looking to explore it further, it’s a chance to slow down, observe, and create something truly individual.

This workshop includes lunch in the lovely National Trust run Crofters Cafe.
