Event description

Description

A walk and talk around some of the interesting ceramic locations in Venice, starting at the Ateneo Veneto in Campo San Fantin near La Fenice opera house. This summer the Ateneo Veneto is the site of a major commission by Edmund de Waal entitled 'Psalm' and this will form the starting point of the walk. We will then visit two ceramicists based in very different locations in the city.

Venice has a fascinating history of craft making, most famously glass. Ceramic making also flourished in the past, and recent excavation has uncovered kilns underneath some of Venice's historic squares. This event will explore ideas around contemporary and historic ceramic making in Venice, the artists who work here all year round and the impact that tourism and the Venice Biennale have on those who live and work in the city.
