About the Training


This training module is 2 of 8 easy access modules which cover the following learning themes:


  1. An introduction to Community Learning and Development (CLD)
  2. Know and understand the community in which you work
  3. Build and maintain relationships with individuals and groups
  4. Provide learning and development opportunities in a range of contexts
  5. Facilitate and promote community empowerment
  6. Organise and manage resources
  7. Develop and support collaborative working
  8. Evaluate and inform practice


Module 2 enables learners to gain knowledge, understanding and skills to aid them in working with and understanding communities.

Learners will be supported to carry out community mapping exercises using effective community engagement methods and approaches and to identify priority areas of action, need and change.

On completion of this module, learners will:

  • Understand and use different methods to carry out community mapping
  • Understand the process of effective community engagement
  • Understand how to help communities to identify priorities for community action and change

Learners will look be supported to reflect on their own work and learn to use tools and resources which will aid their own practice. This will enable learners to better understand and improve the impact of their work on individuals and groups in Highland communities.

These training modules have been developed by Youth Highland and approved by CLD Standards Council.

Youth Highland have held a CLD Standards Mark since 2015 (most recently sucessfully renewed in August 2023) and have been suporting communities to grow and develop since 2013. Youth Highland have devloped and deliver a range of Youth Work training including Young Leaders Training and Introduction to Youth Work courses across the HIghlands and digitally.
