Being able to communicate effectively is an essential workplace skill. Assertive communication means you can stand your ground rather than being walked over. You can present your ideas and opinions in a self-assured way without dismissing or negating the ideas and opinions of others.

This course will outline the skills and techniques of assertive communication and the ways you can apply them in your daily life. Topics will include: reflecting on situations where you feel unassertive, the difference between assertiveness and aggression, vocal tone, body language and the link between the two, choosing the right words to express yourself and techniques for dealing with difficult situations.

Aims:

  • An understanding of your current communication style

  • An understanding of the elements of assertive communication

  • Techniques for adapting your communication style
