Event description

Description

Baffled by church finance? Help is at hand. The Association of Church Accountants and Treasurers will be facilitating a workshop for clergy to bring them up to speed. At a recent workshop clergy comments included ‘If only I had attended a workshop like this 25 years ago’, ‘what I needed to know as I left my curacy and didn’t’.

Topics covered will include:

Clergy and Money Management – Dealing with the financial management responsibilities which clergy assume when they are called to a church, and the implications which flow from that.

Statutory Accounting Obligations – The legal requirements which govern the financial administrative obligations placed upon churches, which they are required to follow, including the statutory framework governing charities.

Understanding Financial Reports – The ability to understand simple reports is critical to effective management of church finance. Clergy should be able to read a Balance Sheet and grasp the implications which flow from it. Sample reports will be considered and the key elements to look for defined.

Planning and Budgets – Effective ministry is based on resourcing the vision which churches have. Efficient use of the limited financial resources available requires clear financial planning centered on the preparation of simple budgets. Examples of such and suggested methods of achieving this will be explored.

Booking and cost

For clergy in IME2 the workshop is free.

For all other diocesan clergy it is £10, the cost of which can be taken from your CMD allowance. More information about CMD from Lesley Steed at lesley.steed@cofesuffolk.org or 01473 298510.
