About this event

After a second closure due to Covid-19, we are reopening in line with Government guidelines and looking forward to seeing you.

Take a trip into the past and learn about the competition that sparked Brunel's career, the 33 year journey of the Bridge being completed and the memories of those who use and love the Bridge today.

We will be carefully managing visitor numbers and tickets are limited, so we are asking visitors to the Visitor Centre to pre-book in advance (if capacity permits, we will allow entry without a pre-booked ticket, but cannot guarantee entry). The Bridge is always open and free of charge to pedestrians and you do not have to book to cross it.

We're aiming to make things feel as close to normal as possible, but the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers is our main concern. We are reopening the Visitor Centre in a limited, safe and socially distanced way. Our permanent exhibition, and shop are both reopen from Friday 21 May 2021, and will be open from Friday- Monday each week. The opening hours are 10am-1pm and 2pm - 5pm. If booking the 12.30pm or 4.30pm tickets, please arrive at the start of the entry time to avoid your visit being cut short due to closing times.

We've implemented some new measures to offer the safest, most enjoyable experience possible:

  • Reduced building capacity in line with the latest government guidance and sector advice.
  • Enhanced cleaning schedules and installation of hand sanitisers at key points. Please note the Visitor Centre will be closed from 1pm-2pm daily for cleaning. Please bear this in mind when booking your timed entry.
  • One way system with social distancing markers
  • Protective screens on the reception desk and shop counter and PPE for staff
  • Training in physical distancing and hygiene protocols for our team.

We have qualified for the 'We're Good To Go!' mark from Visit England to verify that we've met government and industry Covid-19 guidelines.

When you visit please:

  • plan your journey and arrive at your booked entry time.
  • Have your e-ticket or paper ticket ready for inspection.
  • Bring a face covering with you, you'll need this throughout the exhibition (unless exempt).
  • Make use of our hand sanitiser stations throughout your visit and follow the one way system.
  • Keep 2 metres distance from other visitors who are not in your group.
  • Use the stairs if you are able.
  • Bring a contactless payment method for shop purchases or donations.

To ensure staff and visitor safety, if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or display any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19, please do not attend. We will be happy to rearrange your ticket, please contact us at visitinfo@cliftonbridge.org.uk to change the date of your visit.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you back into our building.

With an unprecedented investment through the Culture Recovery Fund, the government is #HereForCulture so it can weather the storm of coronavirus and come back stronger. And we are #HereForCulture too, thanks to this funding we are able to re-open with free tickets for entry.

We still need your support for our future and by making a donation, you’ll be helping us to get back on our feet and share the story of the bridge for years to come. You can add a donation when you pre book your tickets, or at one of our contactless donation points when you visit the Visitor Centre.

Please note that your contact information, given at the time of booking may be shared with the NHS Test and Trace service. For more information, please see our Privacy and Cookies Policy on our website.
