FREE tickets - Cliftonville Classrooms will be Margate’s version of Tedtalks, thirteen-minute talks that are short and engaging.

The Cliftonville Classrooms will be held in a large tent at the Cliftonville Games 2019 and run by GRASS Cliftonville volunteers. Cliftonville Classroom is where members of our community can share short, carefully prepared talks or stories that are idea-focused, and cover subjects that foster learning, inspiration and wonder – and most importantly provoke conversations that matter within our community here in Cliftonville and Margate.

The talks will cover topics that matter to the whole community, environment, wellbeing and Health and innovation and will also have a focus on the over 50s. Cliftonville Classroom will have a range of speakers chatting about things that matter in our community and dedicated seating area for the over 50’s. You do not need a ticket for the talks however these will be on a first come first served basis!

Ageless Thanet @ 12:10

Opening this year's Cliftonville Classrooms is our brilliant sponsor Ageless Thanet, with an engaging talk on perceptions of aging, combating loneliness and the joys of volunteering here in Thanet.

Making a Buzz @ 12:30

A buzzy talk about the ambitious Bumblebee Conservation Trust project, which spans 135 miles of Kent’s coastline from Dartford to Deal, and focuses on restoring and creating habitat for Kent’s wild bees, especially the Shrill carder bee (Bombus sylvarum).

Bags of Tatse / Annie Nichols @ 13:00

Professional food writer Annie Nichols (Hot Meals Now) will talk about the fantastic Bags of Tatste, a project that was set up to help people struggling with food costs so they can eat better, for less money. People can learn to cook for less than £1 a portion and transform their diets by eating more vegetables, and less takeaways.

Encourage Wellbeing @ 13:30

An introcuction to an innovative programme that promotes healthy lifestyle choices and healthy eating.

Everyday Plastic / Daniel Webb @ 14:00

Daniel Webb studied the plastic pollution on our local beaches and wanted to dig deeper into the murky national recycling figures, so he launched a personal investigation to understand exactly what he throws away and where it ends up.

Margate Pilates @ 14:30

Staying fit and healthy is extremely important, especially in later life, and Pilates is a great way for older adults to build and maintain their strength as it improves posture, balance, stability and flexibility, all without being too taxing on the joints or muscles. The team from Margate Pilates will talk about how we all can get more active.

Solasta Sounds / Joanne Miller @ 15:00

Solasta Sounds offers sound therapy and meditation and actively works in Margate with the over 50’s to promote wellbeing, and will be talking about reducing stress. The Mental Health Foundation and Cancer Research UK both support mindfulness as a tool to help you live your life, improve general wellbeing, and help treat depression.

Kandiss Riley @ 15:30

Kanndiss Riley, co-founder of She is Clothed, will be discussing the importance of intergenerational activity, and how it inspires and educates. She will talk through how to break insolation through community activity and why this is so inspirational.

Sink the Pink / Amy Redmond@ 16:00

Amy Redmond, director of Margate Pride, and founder of Sink The Pink, talks about the importance of allies in the LGBTQ+ community and how we can all do our bit.

Open School East / Ayaan Bulale @ 16:30

How not to be arse in the arts: An in-depth look on how to remain human in an outward facing arts organisation and the art of being non-exclusive in a new community.
