About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Are you an international schoolteacher of any subject looking to support your students’ English language development? CLIL is a methodology focusing on the simultaneous learning of language and content from a specific subject area such as science, literature, or maths.

This webinar will provide an overview of the key ideas offered by the CLIL approach and look at how these might be integrated into the effective teaching of curricular content to EAL learners in international school settings. This will include ideas for considering language needs in lesson planning, successful collaboration between EAL and subject teachers, and practical examples of using a CLIL approach in different subject areas and with different age groups.

This webinar is suitable for primary and secondary educators of EAL learners in international settings who are new to CLIL or who would like to revisit CLIL through an EAL lens.

Areas of focus will include:

  • A definition of CLIL and why it can be useful in an EAL context;
  • The 4 Cs of CLIL: content, communication, culture, and cognition;
  • Principles for language practice within a CLIL approach (Ball et al., 2015);
  • What a CLIL approach means for teacher collaboration.

Ball P., Kelly, K., & Clegg J. (2015). Putting CLIL into Practice. Oxford: Oxford University Press
