Climate Change – Adaptation and Mitigation (Joint with ICE)
Tue 28 March 2017, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
Climate change mitigation, ie: drastically reducing the CO2 content of operating and designing our built environment, will require embracing innovation and speed of implementation in a way only seen during the Industrial Revolution and war time.
Hear Professor Keith Clarke CBE, former ICE Vice-President, talk about how our profession can rise to the challenges and opportunities this presents.
Speaker Professor Keith Clarke CBE, is a chartered architect with more than 40 years’ experience in construction and engineering, having worked in all aspects of the construction industry, including Government. He was Chief Executive of WS Atkins for eight years until August 2011, joining Atkins from Skanska AB where he was executive vice president responsible for its activities in the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic, India, Hong Kong and China. Prior to that, he worked for the City of New York, Olympia & York, Trafalgar House and Kvaerner.
Keith is at the forefront of encouraging the built environment to embrace Carbon Critical thinking in response to the urgent challenge of climate change. He believes carbon must become a core decision-making factor in the way we plan, design and procure capital projects. Keith was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List 2011.
