Event description
Join United Nations Association Glasgow for a discussion on the impacts of climate change on migration.

About this event

The impacts of climate change are increasing both in frequency and intensity, with devastating consequences on vulnerable populations who have a lower capacity to adapt. These impacts have been projected to worsen, which is likely to prompt vulnerable people to migrate to less affected areas. Social and economic factors will further exacerbate inequalities caused by climate impacts. These inequalities will likely affect women and children more. There is, therefore, a need to understand and assist vulnerable populations to build adaptive capacity, reduce inequality and enhance sustainable development, particularly in regions most threatened by and vulnerable to climate change.

This event is designed to explore climate migration and inequality among vulnerable populations and regions and why it is important to foster the inclusion and participation of affected persons in climate actions and other decision-making processes.

Speakers will include Dr Sennan Mattar, a researcher with the Centre for Climate Justice at Glasgow Caledonian University, and Ishaan Shah, the founder of Stolen Dreams and an international anti-human trafficking, gender equality and climate action young leader.
