Brinksway Cinema Club is excited to continue our Climate Cuts series – action-inspiring community film nights that bring people together with a simple yet powerful format - Watch/Talk/Act/Eat

Join us on Thursday September 25th at What If? as we explore the theme of moving differently: walking, wheeling, skating and cycling...and getting on and off the bus. Expect inspiring films, lightning talks, hands-on activities, and a shared meal to round off the night.

Cycling UK + TfGM E-Bike Hub launch

Excitedly, we will be joined by Cycling UK and TfGM as they officially launch their second e-bike hub in GM at What if? in Stockport on the same evening and where you'll be able to try out a sweet pedal assisted ride around Hollywood Park.

You can book on for that seperately here

We'll also have a mechanic on site to fix up your rides if they need a tweak!

Schedule:

Arrive from 5:45pm for drinks and mingling

WATCH

First off we'll be watching a hand-picked set of short films exploring low-carbon journeys:

Walking: Through the LensWenjiao Zhang

A poetic documentary capturing the overlooked beauty of everyday walks, and the joy of slowing down.

In A BitAlex Burston & Greg Cheney

Local pro skater Alex takes us on a ride through Stockport’s streets, filmed with energy and pride.

ConnectSamuel Abrahams

A young woman’s outlook shifts when she makes an unexpected connection on a city bus.

Kidical Mass MCR – Reclaim the Streets

Families reclaim Manchester’s roads in a child-paced cycle ride, finishing with a picnic and kids’ speakers’ corner.

CHAT

After the screenings, we'll hear inspiring lightning talks and join an open Q&A with local and sometimes accidental active travel champions and changemakers:

  • Sarah Rowe - one of the co-founders of Kidical Mass MCR
  • Lisa Arrandale - Active Communities Officer at Life Leisure CIC
  • Belinda Everett - GM Bicycle Mayor + Founder of Bee Pedal Ready CIC
  • Alex Burston Pro Skater & Stockport based filmmaker

ACT

No resting on our laurels as we get the blood pumping for a portion of the night with some real-time proactive action on site - take part in one of the following by joining up at the start of the night:

  • Join an taster e-bike ride led by Cycling UK in and around Hollwyood Park - book on here or sign up on the night.
  • Take a guided neighbourhood stroll to the orchard in Hollywood Park
  • The Tabling of Ideas Table - with TfGM in the room and Active Assembly network members conveneing - we'll be looking at shaping priorities and quick win ideas for a collective and place-based bid TfGM's walking and wheeling fund together.

EAT

and then we round off the evening with a s(skate)board of cheese wheels and picky bits and geeky travel conversations - all shared together in good company.

All wrapped up by 9:30pm

RSVP via Eventbrite if you’d like food or have any dietry needs so we can prep enough for everyone.
