Description

Climate Emergency: A Christian Response of Faith, Hope and Urgency

This year, we have seen significant developments in responding to the climate crisis, from Extinction Rebellion to school strikes for the climate, leading to the UK Parliament and Scottish and Welsh governments declaring a climate emergency.

Churches in the UK have taken steps forward on fossil fuel divestment, including the United Reformed Church, which voted unanimously to divest from fossil fuels in May.

Thousands of people are meeting their MPs this month to discuss the UK government's response to the climate emergency. How can we increase the urgency of action?

Operation Noah's annual gathering is a great opportunity to meet others, get inspired and share ideas on responding to the climate emergency in our churches, locally and on a national level.

Keynote speaker: Hannah Malcolm, winner of the Church Times’ Theology Slam

We are delighted that Hannah Malcolm, winner of the Church Times’ Theology Slam, will be our keynote speaker this year. Hannah is the Coordinator for God and the Big Bang, a national project helping children, young people and teachers engage with the dialogue between science and faith. Her research has focused on eco-theology and the role of Christianity in public life. Prior to moving to Manchester she lived and worked at Hilfield Friary, the first recipient of the Eco Church Gold Award in the UK.

You can watch Hannah Malcolm's talk from the Church Times' Theology Slam here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GknXxsvqToU

You will have a choice of workshops on fossil fuel divestment, Extinction Rebellion and direct action for the climate (with Christian Climate Action) and eco-spirituality.

Tickets are free, though donations are very welcome to cover the costs of the event. Bring-and-share lunch; tea and coffee provided.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!
