Event description
We’re running some climate emergency training for volunteers in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, funded by The Scottish Government.

About this event

This free online course is a great opportunity for Girlguiding Scotland members to gain a better understanding of the climate emergency and get the skills and tools they need to help young people turn their concerns about climate change into positive action. If you're up for taking part find out more and register your interest today!

By taking part in the training you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about climate science, the impacts of climate change and responses at a local, national and international level
  • Investigate the impact of their own behaviour and how to make changes that will help to tackle climate change
  • Discuss how they can best communicate and inspire young people to respond to climate change

The training set up

The training will run for three consecutive weeks and the dates are

Monday 17 January, Monday 24 January, Monday 31 January,

or Thursday 20 January, Thursday 27 January and Thursday 3 February

Each online workshop starts at 7pm and lasts approx. 90 minutes. There might be a bit of homework to that participants can work through at their own pace. Please note both sets of dates will only go ahead if there is enough interest.

In addition to the course, a toolkit will be made available for participants to use in a wide range of settings to engage, inform and mobilise young people to play their part in responding to the climate emergency. Participants who successfully complete the three modules can apply to gain official Carbon Literate accreditation through the Carbon Literacy Project.

More info

Although the focus for the training is youth workers, it is also open to young people (14+) who are leaders and mobilisers. The climate emergency training is part of the Youth Leader Climate Project which is being delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful and YouthLink Scotland and is funded by the Scottish Government.

Register your interest today

Let us know when you'd like to do your three week course (the Monday dates or the Thursday dates). Once you've done this, and if there's enough space, Keep Scotland Beautiful will then be in touch soon to confirm your place and send on course information.
