Climate uncertainty – moving from listening to change
Date and time
A zero-carbon future will need us all to make changes for which we are far from ready - let's find out where we are & how far we need to go.
About this event
York has made a commitment to be zero carbon by 2030. But for very many people, the focus of their lives is on making a living or dealing with poverty, how their homes provide comfort and health – or fail to – and how they move around the city affordably. This neighbourhood walk will be a chance to explore these issues and start to see where connections with climate change questions might be made.
We will meet outside the Jubilee pub on Balfour Street. The walk will be hosted by Helen Graham and Phil Bixby of My Future York. It's open to anyone but residents of the Leeman Road area are particularly welcome. We will walk and talk, to discuss life in this part of York, to ask what the big issues are in people's lives and to start to see how these day-to-day challenges connect with climate change - how we cope with it and how we act to prevent its worst excesses.
The walk will be on generally level surfaces (pavements and streets) and will not be a great distance - our main aim is to talk and use what we see in the neighbourhood to prompt discussion.
The event is part of York Environment Week 2021. Find out more at yorkenvironmentweek.org.uk.
