‘Climbing Blind’ Film Screening and Director Q&A | Open to the Public
Event Information
About this Event
Climbing Blind
Born with just 20% vision and a rare genetic disease - Retinitis Pigmentosa - that has left him with just 1-2 % field of view, Jesse Dufton is going against the grain and climbing in the face of adversity. An avid climber and GB Para Climbing team member who loves both the physical and mental challenges one faces in rock climbing, follow Jesse’s journey as he takes on the iconic Old Man of Hoy as the first blind person to lead the intense climb up the Scotland sea stack, even as his vision deteriorates and challenges arise.
Experience Jesse and his team’s journey as they push the limits of what is possible in rock climbing and break boundaries within the sport in this award-winning film.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A session with international film director Alastair Lee, creator of ‘Climbing Blind’ and Lancashire native.

An Incredible Challenge
Standing at 449-foot tall, The Old Man of Hoy is an Old Red Sandstone sea stack found on the north coast of Scotland and makes for a formidable climb. Previously, this popular sea stack has been climbed by another blind climber, who achieved the climb with assistance, a four-month pregnant famed French rock climber and a fund-raising 8-year-old-boy who went on to win a Pride of Britain Award for his charity climb.
