The course covers reflective approaches to supervision, solution focused strengths based & appreciative supervision and how to choose and adapt the approach taken depending on specific needs of the supervisee.

It covers what’s involved in successful supervision and for those who are not yet supervisors it considers ‘what makes a good supervisee?’

Clinical Supervision is about more than rewinding and looking back at clinical events. It is about analysing the whole situation, including or own role in events and reflecting on the relationships involved and our own decision making. Each situation is multi-faceted , yet the tools of clinical supervision are simple and straightforward.

Course Content/Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to..

● Know about clinical/professional supervision and how it has developed over time in SLT

● Be clear about the different types of supervision - management, clinical, professional.

● Know the differences between supervision, mentoring, coaching and counselling.

● Know about the 3 Functions of Supervision

● Focus on Restorative supervision and links with resilience and stress management.

● Knowing several frameworks for clinical supervision

● Know about the importance of a guided conversation and how this can support clinical learning and development

● Be confident in utilising a reflective model in a supervision session

● Know about solution focused questions and how to draw on these in supervisory conversations

● Be aware of what can go wrong in a supervisory relationship

● Be confident about the ‘how to’s of the supervisory contract, groundrules and reviewing supervision
