About this Event

We are delighted to announce an upcoming webinar with Clive Bannister, Non-Exec Chair of Rougemont Management Ltd, to discuss the subject of China: Friend or Foe?

China’s party-state has become considerably more assertive in a number of areas, including an aggressive “wolf warrior” diplomacy, mercantilist trade behaviour, and intensifying domestic social repression. These trends have significantly altered American and European perceptions of', and interactions with, China. What do these changes mean for our future relationship with China? How should governments, experts, and members of society regard China - fried or foe? Clive Bannister will share his considerable experience with us to explore this issue.

Clive Bannister is the Non Exec Chair of Rougemont Management Ltd which is a private investment company. Prior to this, from 2011 to 2020 he was the Group Chief Executive Officer for the Phoenix Group Plc. Phoenix is Europe’s largest specialist insurance company; managing assets of £330bn, employing 7,200 and with a market capitalisation of £7.0bn. It is a FTSE 65 company. Before this, Mr Bannister was the Group Managing Director of Insurance and Asset Management at HSBC Holdings plc. He joined HSBC in 1994 and held various leadership roles in planning and strategy in the Investment Bank (USA) and was Group General Manager and CEO of HSBC Group Private Banking.  He started his career at First National Bank of Boston and, prior to working at HSBC, was a partner in Booz Allen Hamilton in the Financial Services Practice, providing strategic support to financial institutions including leading insurance companies, banks and investment banks. Mr Bannister is also Chair of the Museum of London.
