Wayne will talk about the unique role of culture and creativity in place making, especially in those places that are seeking to improve social mobility, life expectancy and grow their local economy – places like Lowestoft, Hunstanton, Morecombe, Margate. He will talk about the role of ‘free’ festivals in generating opportunities for communities to celebrate, share, trade and reflect.

The first of three skills gym workouts designed to enhance your personal resilience skills.
Mindfulness is a significant aspect of personal resilience. Exercise your mindfulness ‘muscles’ by applying the concept to eating (at the same time preparing yourself for lunch!).

1335 – 1415 Professor Sonia Blandford and Sarah Mears, Libraries Connected
Professor Sonia Blandford and Sarah Mears will argue that social justice enriches the whole community. They will explore how the public library system, founded on social justice principles has a crucial role in supporting children and families to harness talents and aspirations that have a lasting impact on life chances.

1415 – 1430 Reflect on your current lifestyle and commit to making minor changes, to enhance your health, wellbeing and resilience (just as we ask our customers to do!).

1500 – 1535 Roger Higman, Director the Network of Wellbeing
Roger will talk about wellbeing as a driver of public policy and the key role that culture and leisure can play in tackling loneliness and enabling everyone to flourish. He will discuss how a focus on wellbeing can re-invigorate the case for public provision, but also challenge service providers to change.

1535 – 1545 Focus with a passion on what is within your Sphere of Influence; what is outside, forget! Research shows that this way of thinking is key to our resilience.

1545-1600 Qigong – relax with some gentle exercise, involving breath control, visualisation and movement.

1600 –1730 Optional – self-led tour of HMS Belfast for up to 30 people
