In the 18th century John Harrison revolutionised timepieces enabling huge advances in global navigation, marine safety, mercantile opportunity and trade economics. The City was at the right place at the right time and today marks the 250th anniversary of Harrison's passing in 1776. Lester Hillman charts the dramas including key locations, institutions, quirky place names and unexpected links.
