Event description
The official closing of the Life of Breath Project alongside our Catch Your Breath Bristol exhibition

About this Event

We are delighted to invite you to join us for the official closing of the Life of Breath Project, which has been running since 2014 and is soon ending, alongside our Catch Your Breath Bristol exhibition.

  • 6:30pm: Drinks reception & special 'Catch your Breath' exhibition viewing
  • 7:30pm: Speeches
  • 8.00pm: Performance of Under the Surface, a choral piece, commissioned by Life of Breath, to be performed live at the event (30 mins)

In our workshops, we are gathering audience contributions along the way and very much look forward to displaying these creative responses and observations at this end of project event alongside showcasing our exhibition display.

Under the Surface is a choral piece composed by Toby Young and is inspired by the research of the Life of Breath team, particularly the work of Havi Carel and Alice Malpass, exploring the experience and isolation of people affected by breathlessness. It uses two separate choirs, a larger group (the University of Bristol singers) and a smaller group (award-winning vocal consort The Brabant Ensemble, pictured below), conducted by their director Stephen Rice.

Please check our websites for full event details and to keep up to date: www.catchyourbreath.org and https://catchyourbreath.org/events/

The Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is located on Queens Road just off Park Street, only a five to ten minute walk from the city centre. Bus numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 72 all travel past the museum up Park Street and from the Clifton Triangle. The museum is around two miles from the M32 on Queens Rd (BS8 1RL). You can park in any of the city car parks but the closest two are West End (BS8 1EH) and Trenchard Street (BS1 5AN), both about a five minute walk away. Use the drive section of the TravelWest website to check for their locations and facilities.

Detailed access information can be found here and we can offer to any attendees with additional access needs.

For queries please contact Life of Breath project administrators Nancy West (nancy.west@bristol.ac.uk) or Jordan Collver (jordan.collver@bristol.ac.uk).
