About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

An introduction to the wondrous world of clouds by the internationally bestselling author, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society and TED Global speaker, Gavin Pretor-Pinney. In this truly unique event, Gavin takes you on an illustrated tour of the sky, revealing the facts, secrets and stories of all the major cloud types, from low-flying Stratus, to high-flying Cirrus via roll clouds, banner clouds and tornados - and how they shape the weather around them. You'll even visit them on other planets, where they are sometimes made of acid. Gavin explains how cloudspotting is the perfect antidote to the pressures of the digital world, and you’ll discover that spending a few moments each day with your head in the clouds will help you keep your feet on the ground.

Frequently asked questions

BOOKING

All children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult. This means that adults will need to buy tickets too, exactly as if you were going to the cinema. We cannot take responsibility for unsupervised children so please don’t drop them off and leave.

AGE GUIDELINES

Our age guidelines are usually based on the reading age of the book, but you know your kids much better than we do, so if you’re happy they’ll enjoy the event, we’re happy!

DURATION

Doors to the venues open 20 minutes prior to the event starting. We know! Every event at Barnes is unmissable but we’d like to ask you not to book back to back events so you’re not arriving after the author has started their presentation.

ACCESS

Everyone is welcome at Barnes! Assistance animals too! All our venues are wheelchair accessible and if you can let us know you’re coming beforehand we can arrange priority seating for you. Email: info@barneskidslitfest.org

CANCELLATIONS

We’d never cancel an event or switch a venue unless it was absolutely necessary but our authors and artists are real people, just like us, and sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances we do need to cancel or substitute an event. For more details see our T&Cs https://www.barneskidslitfest.org/terms
