'Clowning Around Crediton', is a monthly fun, casual and supportive workshop created for anyone who wants to explore the world of improv comedy! Aside from having a laugh, our goal is to create an open, safe space that is accessible to everyone, where mistakes are seen as tools for learning and we let go of the idea of perfection in order to fully express ourselves both on stage and throughout life.
The focus of the group is improv comedy but will draw on techniques and elements from a range of performance styles including; clowning, stand up, mime, ensemble acting and many more. We will draw upon traditional forms of comedy such as Commedia Dell'arte, and bring them into the present day taking into consideration the influence of social media and globalisation.
Lead by local comedian, Ami Maya, who gained a Bachelors in Comedy and Satire from Goldsmiths University, the classes are designed to be a comfortable but exciting way to learn about the art of improv. The aim of the workshop is to build the confidence and self assurance to release your inner clown, whilst also developing a range of skills that help with all kinds of performing.
