About this event

  • 3 hours

This interactive event offers a fantastic opportunity for women who are approaching or going through the menopause to find out everything they need to know. From perimenopausal warning signs to full-on menopausal symptoms, this open and honest session will cover the key physical and mental challenges that the change brings. Our expert panel will be on hand to de-mystify the menopause and will ensure you leave with a better understanding of what to expect and how to cope with this momentous experience.

Top and tailed with some purely social time, this event will also give you a chance to catch up with friends and meet some new ones who are going through similar experiences to you.

What to expect

Our expert panel will provide answers to the following questions:

  • When does the menopause usually start and how long does it last?
  • What are the early signs of menopause? How is it diagnosed?
  • What symptoms should I expect? Are there different symptoms at different stages?
  • What are my options in terms of medication and alternative treatments?
  • What is HRT? How does it work and how do I know if its right for me?
  • Are there any changes that I should make regarding diet, lifestyle and exercise?
  • How can I manage knock-on effects of the menopause on my loved ones?
  • How can I avoid post-menopausal conditions such as osteoporosis and heart disease?

Speakers

Dr Manik Imsirovic

I qualified in Australia in 1990 and moved to the UK in 1992 where I was working in NHS and private hospitals. My husband's work took us to Singapore for many years; returning to the UK in 2013. I refreshed my degree through the Oxford vocational training scheme. It was through this work I discovered Lifestyle Medicine which showed me a holistic approach to medicine. It is based on the whole person rather than simply prescribing more and more medication. My qualifications are below:

  • Member of the International Academy of Nutrition Educators (UK 2022)
  • Member of Plant based Health Professionals (UK 2022)
  • Dip IBSLM: Diploma in British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and American Society of Lifestyle Medicine (UK 2020)
  • MRCGP: Member of Royal College of General Practitioners (UK 2017)
  • DRCOG: Diploma in Gynaecology (UK 2016)
  • DipDerm: Diploma in Dermatology (Singapore 2005)
  • MBBS: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Australia 1990)

Helen Ritchie, Clinical Nutritional Therapist, Ritch Nutrition

I’m Helen and I help professional menopausal women to stop career and life disrupting symptoms and start feeling normal again.

When menopause struck me 6 years ago, I recognised the hot flushes, but not the associated brain fog, acute anxiety and disrupted sleep, which overnight left me feeling unable to perform in my senior marketing career and ultimately contributed to me losing that job.

It did however give me the opportunity to retrain in nutrition and now I understand what we can do naturally with diet and lifestyle to get our lives back on track, I’m passionate about sharing that knowledge with you.

I provide personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes and advice on a one-to-one basis.

Julie Parkinson, Founder, Stay Strong with Julie

I live in Maidenhead with my husband, 3 young children and our dog Rocket. I'm a busy Mum, a Personal Trainer, a keen runner, and an enthusiastic gardener.

I am 54 years young and believe that keeping fit and eating well keep us feeling and looking good.

I am not your average personal trainer – I have a wealth of life experience and I understand the challenges of life.

I have experienced rehabilitation through exercise, after 2 major back operations. I understand the impact of childbirth on the body and the importance and logistical challenges of fitting exercise into an already busy life.

I hit menopause about 2 years ago.

There have been times in my life when even standing was impossible. For months I had to crawl to the bathroom in the mornings before my body allowed me to get up.

Despite, and because of, my experiences - I live life to the full! ....and I truly believe that you can Stay Strong too. Exercise really is the best medicine!

I pride myself in my ability to relate to the needs of my clients. I develop individualised exercise plans which are not only progressive, to ensure you reach your fitness goals, but also fun and highly motivational.
