About this event
After I took early retirement the opportunity arose for me to apply to Sheffield University. Here I studied a BA in Biblical Studies. After completing my Honours degree I was asked to stay on and research for a PhD in Biblical Studies focussing on Ritual Purity and Impurity in the Herodian Temple Period. After this I went to Manchester University to take a Masters Degree in Jewish Studies concentrating on the site of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls. All this took 10 years. Meanwhile my wife (an Infant School Teacher) had reached retirement and yet still wanted to go into Primary Schools in the area around our home in Bakewell so for the last 13 years (and still on-going) we go into 23 local Schools each half term with puppets to tell Bible stories for Collective Worship. We both take worship services and Bible studies in our local churches and I give talks on the Dead Sea Scrolls. We have visited Israel 16 times looking at the history and Archaeology. We are members of Beth Shalom Holocaust Education Centre at Laxton, Nottinghamshire and the Sheffield branch of the Council of Christians and Jews.
