Event description

Description

Join us for two single-day workshops at IIED during London Climate Action Week to help co-create the GCA’s Locally-led Adaptation Action Track:

Workshop: Money Where it Matters 101 workshop to building knowledge and experience on how to get climate finance to the frontlines of climate change
Date: Tuesday 2 July
Time: 2pm - 5:30pm

This Money Where it Matters 101 workshop provides an opportunity to learn how the business-as-usual climate finance landscape could be fundamentally reformed. During this workshop IIED researchers will present three interactive sessions with opportunities for participants to learn and share their own evidence and experiences:

  • Vision: IIED’s vision for a reimagined climate finance system, providing an opportunity for participants to give their own experiences of why local action can deliver climate action at scale, and the multiple ways it can be delivered.
  • Money Where it Matters framework: IIED’s framework for how to design, support and grow “frontier” climate funds that put resources into the hands of local communities at the frontiers of climate change. This provides an opportunity for workshop participants to discuss the key principles needed for climate finance to support local action.
  • Recommendations for climate finance reforms: An opportunity to discuss and share recommendations for key changes required in the climate finance system to deliver local action at scale.

3 July - other activities scheduled. For more information contact barry.smith@iied.org and karen.wong@iied.org.

Workshop: GCA Locally-led Action Track co-creation workshop, providing you an opportunity to shape the GCA’s process.
Date: Thursday 4 July
Time: 9:30am for coffee, begin session at 10am - 5pm

The Global Commission on Adaptation’s (GCA) Locally-led Action Track aims to intitiate a qualitative shift in the way we go about undertaking adaptation and development. It aims to empower local actors to develop, implement and monitor adaptation solutions that reach millions of the most vulnerable people globally, and scale up locally-led adaptation action. The Locally-led Action Track will feed into the GCA’s Flagship Report and the UNSG Summit in September 2019, seeking to ensure local action is radically scaled-up during the GCA’s year of action.

IIED is helping design the GCA’s Locally-led Action Track and wants you to co-create it with us. IIED is seeking evidence and experience on locally-led adaptation finance from across the climate finance system, including: national governments, bilateral donors, multilateral development banks and climate funds, UN agencies, international NGOs, and local communities and institutions themselves.

In order to feed directly into the evidence generation for the GCA’s Locally-led Adaptation Action Track, IIED is hosting an “Evidence Co-creation” day guided by key questions to gather your experience, evidence and ideas around locally led adaptation finance. This workshop will provide a space for actors from across the climate finance system to build bridges and work out the key principles and solutions to local adaptation finance.

Please register your interest in attending via the register button above by 19 June.
