Description
The event is organised as an Open Space event driven by your own enterprise development agenda. There will be a general open space and a Co-operative Councils Open Space. The Co-operative Council Open Space follows a succesful Open Space in 2012 which looked at:
What is a Cooperative Council?
The status of Co-operative Councils and whther they should have minimum standards?
The Transition to Cooperative Councils
What does a Cooperative Council look like?
Citizen participation in a Co-operative Council?
What is the council’s place in a cooperative economy?
The Cooperative Neighbourhood
All participants will receive a copy of the 2012 report prior to the event.
Participants can choose whether to attend the Co-operative Councils Open Space or the General Open Space.
This event is designed to maximise debate and productive interaction between co-operatives and social enterprises working with local authorities, researchers active in the field of co-operative and social enterprise education and research, and councillors and officers who want to create 'co-operative councils' that create social value.
The agenda is negotiated by participants at the start of the morning and afternoon sessions, to ensure it is relevant to the people present.
There will be no keynote speeches, no panels of 'experts', no death by PowerPoint, just focussed discussions amongst people with a shared interest in taking forward a particular issue or topic.
The Open Space format has a reputation for advancing projects, clarifying concepts, identifying research needs and opportunities, and collaborating on educational activities.
By the end of this day, you will be in a much stronger position to develop university provision for co-operative councils.
Open Space is an approach to running events that cuts through hierarchies to promote the maximum amount of interaction and engagement amongst participants. It has been developed by Sheffield Business School in both its Coaching and Mentoring Research Unit and Co-operative and Social Enterprise Summer School.
The sessions will be facilitated by Dr Rory Ridley-Duff, Sheffield Business School, Hallam University and Dr Cristina Cerulli, School of Architecture, University of Sheffield
