Event description

Description

Co-operatives are an important part of the Northern Ireland economy and we want to tell civic and political representatives about the vibrant organisations that make up our sector. We want to show them the impact that co-operatives have on local communities, jobs creation, wealth generation.

Co-operatives are innovative and respond to the needs of local communities in a variety of ways and your story should be told at this event!

Co-Operative Alternatives is the only local devoted advocate and supporter for co-operatives and we wish to do more to spotlight and promote the local co-operative movement.

This year we want to highlight the fact that co-operatives are people with a can-do attitude, determined to make a difference and get things done. In the face of the growing complexity of our geographies, politics and trading environments, co-operatives must continue to do business in a co-operative way to ensure that we “create a world of dignity and opportunity for all”[1].

We are delighted to announce that Ed Mayo, General Secretary of Co-operatives UK is our key speaker at this event. Co-operatives UK promotes co-operatives through policy, campaigns and the annual publication of the “Co-operative Economy” and Ed has extensively written on economic and social issues that affect co-operatives in books and on his blog “The Power of Co-operation”. Ed will bring insightful views of the global and UK based co-operative movement.

We have also lined up a number of speakers from local co-operatives that will all discuss and share their plans, issues and aspirations for 2018. We believe that co-operatives have solutions and models for the societal challenges of our times.
