Coaching Fishbowl: Dick Tyler - Coaching Senior Leaders in Professional Ser...
Thu 16 November 2017, 15:45 – 18:00 GMT
In some ways, business is business, no matter in what context it is conducted. In other ways, the professional services sector operates in its own unique world, presenting leaders with specific challenges, obstacles and issues. Today’s coach, Dick Tyler, has encountered all of these at first hand. Between 2000 and 2014, Dick was Senior Partner and Managing Partner of CMS Cameron McKenna LLP and Executive Partner of its European business, having previously had a successful practice as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer. He was elected to the role of Managing Partner at the unusually young age of 39, which demonstrates that Dick is not someone to hang around! During his tenure, the firm’s fee income and profit per partner increased by 75% and 150% respectively, the latter being greater than in any other City law firm over the same period. Now an active coach to business leaders in a variety of professional service organisations through his solo business and a new joint venture, Tyler Wilson, as well as a Meyler Campbell Faculty member, Dick hasn’t left the byzantine world of professional services behind, he just engages with it in a different way.
In an environment where technical expertise and achievement are often paramount, Dick’s view is that a higher quality of listening and empathy are critical in enabling people to think more freely and constructively. He models these qualities in the coaching space he creates and his approach means that the agenda and outcomes are always those of his clients. Yet he blends this with an action-oriented focus, which means his clients usually leave their sessions with a realistic plan, meaningful and actionable outcomes and the confidence that they have the capabilities, time and resources needed to execute them. Sign up for the Fishbowl and don’t be late – Dick’s MBTI profile is ISTJ, relatively uncommon for a coach, so his session will definitely start on time!
