Event description

Description

Are you working in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Employee Engagement? Are you a leader leading teams within your organisation (or even remotely)?

Have you ever had to have a difficult conversation with a colleague about underperformance, missed deadlines or had to manage someone out of your organisation?

If so, I bet it wasn’t an easy conversation and there are probably things you wish you’d done differently. If this sounds familiar, you need to join my Masterclass.

Why should you manage workplace conversations differently?

  • The average number of hours spent per week on workplace conflict varies from 0.9 to 3.3 hours a day meaning that your working day might not be filled out by being productive and actually achieving the goals that you want to achieve and instead is filled with difficult conversations or procrastinating over difficult conversations which means you're not getting what you've needed to have done.

  • One in four workers are looking to leave their jobs because of the failure of managers to engage and retain staff which means that you're going to pay higher recruitment fees and you could end up being known to be an employer who is difficult to work with and destroy brand reputation.

  • Nearly four in ten UK employees (38%) report some form of interpersonal conflict at work in 2018. This includes an isolated dispute or incident of conflict (29% of UK employees reporting at least one case) and ongoing difficult relationships (28%) which means that there is a decline in your employees motivation and engagement and that could increase your staff turnover and recruitment cost.

  • In 36% of the situations, the conflict is with a line manager or a colleague within the workplace which means that you are more likely to be affected hence the priority to prepare yourself well.

  • The greatest impact of conflict is stress. On average, each person suffering from stress, depression or anxiety took about 25.8 days off work in 2018 which means that the pressure on you and the rest of the team can be huge and detrimental to your well-being. It can also greatly affect the quality of your decision making process because you feel exhausted which could cost you and the organisation.

  • In 2018, single Employment Tribunal claim receipts increased by 165% which means that employment tribunals are a very real risk for organisations financially and productively for organisations.

  • The point about learning how to handle difficult conversations is that everyone in your organisation can communicate better. It prevents conflict, grievances, complaints. You end up with a more productive and positive workplace overall where people are focused on achieving the real goals rather than conversations at hand.

What will you learn?

  • To use specific communication styles and skills so that you reduce inertia, prevent costly mistakes and dramatically increase performance and productivity.

  • To overcome resistance and increase your confidence so that tension levels go down, communication improves and colleagues ask for feedback.

  • To adopt new ways of relating to and managing relationships so that you rapidly improve your staff morale and their sense of well-being, you reduce your % staff turnover, and you increase your retention rate.

  • To read and respond to nonverbal cues so that you and your colleagues become better communicators.

What are the key benefits?

You will be able to go back to work and manage difficult conversations in a productive way that impacts positively on your teams. On the day of the Masterclass, we practise these difficult conversations in a safe environment (so that you feel confortable and confident taking that back to your workplace) through a range of exercises from masterminding with peers all the way through to role plays and simulations to make sure you get the best possible outcome and that you are able to use the skills that you have learnt. We look at how to manage difficult conversations so that we can prevent more difficult conversations escalating.

You staff will be happier about coming to work. They won't be worried about conflict resolution. They will perform better and so will you.

I am proud that all my Masterclasses have been accredited by the Institute of Internal Communications (IoIC). This means you can claim your 6 hours CPD training.

I look forward to seeing you on the 2nd October.

Nadine
