Coaching with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model
Overview
Coaching with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model with Belinda Rydings
Masterclass Outline
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based approach, developed by Richard Schwartz 40 years ago, and is now highly sought-after due to its efficacy in transforming stuck patterns and healing trauma.
The model helps both coaches and wclients navigate their inner world of conflicting thoughts and emotions and lends itself to coaching conversations as it is both intuitive and client-led.
In this experiential masterclass, coaches will be introduced to the central tenets of this parts-based model. Through individual exercises, demonstration and discussion, coaches will gain a sense of how IFS can be integrated effectively in numerous applications within individual and team coaching settings.
Masterclass Aims
This masterclass is aimed at professional coaches working with leaders and managers who are engaged in their own and their organisation’s processes of change.
Participants will gain an understanding of the IFS model and how to apply it in coaching settings. Through a combination of explanation and experiential exercises, participants will be invited to gain direct experience of working with their own or a client’s parts. Coaches will be introduced to the concept of the Self, and how to gain access to this aspect of themselves in order to work effectively with parts and be fully present with clients. The experiential exercises are designed to give coaches a deeper insight into the roles of protective and vulnerable parts in themselves and their clients, and to see parts as elements of a larger system.
Key takeaways will be aimed at demonstrating the effectiveness of IFS and how clients can sustain their inner development outside the coaching session.
Masterclass Content
Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basic elements of the IFS model and be invited to map their own or a client’s parts in relation to a current coaching goal.
We will explore how a coaching client can approach an internal dilemma or polarity in themself or in their organisation. The role of coach as light touch facilitator of the client’s internal process will be demonstrated though live practice.
In discussion, we will consider how the approach can be used in typical coaching scenarios which will prompt key takeaways for coaches to bring into their own practice.
