Coastal Foraging Experience on Walney Island
Sun 9 July 2017, 11:00 – 15:00 BST
For this summer foraging session we will be exploring the beautiful and little-trod terrain of Walney Island near Barrow-in-Furness. This time of the year makes for joyous seaside foraging with an abundance of exciting plants and a modest selection of seaweeds to be found. We will cover a range of habitats on out foraging walk which will include salt marsh and beach front, and expect to find some fine edible seaweeds as well as delicious plants including marsh samphire and sea purslane. Last year’s session offered unbelievably rich and varied harvest and was hugely enjoyable.
This fun and informative foraging session is suitable for adults and children alike and should make for a fun group day out. The session will last four, or slightly more, hours so please bring food and drink to keep energy levels up. Outdoor footwear including wellies/waders is well advised. Details of the meeting place will be provided on booking.
