Meet outside Whitechapel Art gallery
(77-82 Whitechapel High St, E1 7QX - Nearest Tube = Aldgate East)
You are warmly invited to join us for a walking tour of London migration to mark the launch of COBRA RES' latest response - COBRA RES 1.9 a book of newly written flash fiction and experimental texts in response the current refugee crisis.
We are very pleased to announce that the acclaimed local historian David Rosenberg will lead our walk, tracing radical migration through Spitalfields, London. The content of the walk will look at local historical migration (Huguenots, Irish, Jews, Bengalis) and the crossover with radical political action in the East End - late 19th/early 20th century, anti-racist organising c1900s around Aliens Act/British Brothers League; anti-fascist 1930s; Bengali community and allies v racists/fascists 1970s to the present day.
The tour will last approximately 75mins after which we will end in a prebooked area in a local pub, where you will have the opportunity to rest your feet, buy the new book for £10.00 and read some new flash fiction.
Due to the nature of a walking tour, we have a limited number of places available so if you are unable to attend please cancel you ticket to allow someone else to join us. For those wishing to only join us in the pub afterwards, we aim to be at The Williams Ale and Cider House, 22/24 Artillery Lane, E1 7LS by 8:30pm. - nearest tube - Liverpool St - Please note this is the end of the walk, not the start)
All profits from the sale of the book will go directly to CalAid, a charity supporting migrants and refugees in Calais.
