Event description

Description

Why this initiative?

I am passionate about enhancing digital knowledge of younger generation, and would like them to develop their affinity towards software programming rather than been addicted to passive gaming. I am also an A-level Student, studying in a Grammar School

Previous experience:

I have successfully run the first ever Coding Club at The Curve, Slough for a period of 5 months. The course was oversubscribed, and kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Although it was voluntary, I had an average of over 95% attendance. I have personally seen the growth of digital skill-sets of kids.

What the course will cover?

Kids will complete coding projects, using the programme “Scratch" or Python. Each week we will build upon their new learnt skills. We will provide the materials and give tasks, which if not completed in class, they must be completed at home.

Benefits of the course

  • Fun-learning - building own games and learn basic programming language “Scratch”
  • Encourage creativeness – this will help other subjects and school curriculum.
  • Develop passion for computing – will prepare young people for the future digital world
  • Growing confidence - peer help and support, making small classes a great place to learn.
  • Head start in school curriculum - As the Guardian states, ICT – Information and Communications Technology – is out, replaced by a new “computing” curriculum.
