Event description

Description

Join me for a free hands-on workshop in the Birmingham city centre on 13 December to get the lowdown on what's involved in running a Code Club.

Code Club is a nationwide network of after-school coding clubs for young people aged 9–13. Our clubs are led by volunteers and educators, and this training session will give you all the information you need to start running a Code Club. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of coding or teaching to join this session.

All you need to bring to the training is a laptop. WiFi will be provided, and there is nothing to prepare or download in advance.

Who is the training for?

  • Adults (16+) who are considering hosting or volunteering at a Code Club and would like some more information before they get started
  • Anyone who has signed up as a volunteer but has not yet started running a Code Club
  • Anyone who would like to learn some coding basics in Scratch to help them run a Code Club

What will the training cover?

  • What is a Code Club, and what's involved in setting one up
  • The roles of a Code Club host and volunteer
  • How to work effectively with schools and other host venues
  • Essentials of safeguarding
  • A chance to get hands-on with some coding essentials, Scratch, and the Code Club projects

We're delighted to be teaming up with Google Garage, who will be hosting the event and providing refreshments.

If you have any questions regarding venue accessibility or anything else in advance of the session, please get in touch with me at westmidlands@codeclub.org.uk

I look forward to meeting you there!
