Bootcamp : knowledge session for coaches – micro:bit advanced on 19/12/2019 - 18.30h-21.30h

The class will mostly consist of hands-on exercises to strengthen understanding of programming techniques and how to apply them, using micro:bit.

Exercises will be hands-on whenever possible. We will promote interactions and peer review and we will propose activities before and during the class.

This session will be delivered as 1 evening class (19/12).

  • Deepen technical knowledge around programming techniques with micro:bit
  • Network with other coaches / dojo’s

We will contact participants a few weeks before the event to define agenda into more details, depending on experience and expectations. Here are a few examples that might be part of final agenda (obviously only a few of them can be processed in 1 evening session !)

  • Using micro:bit components:
    • Advanced technique with led matrix (moving dots, sprites, animating images…)
    • Using compass, accelerometer, thermometer
    • Handling wireless communication between micro:bits
    • Using Bluetooth to control external devices
    • Using Bluetooth to provide services to external devices
    • Connecting micro:bit with wired external devices (servo, speaker, leds…)
    • Connecting micro:bit to a computer using serial interface (providing real-time measures)
    • Programming techniques
      • Managing code (structuring into functions, naming conventions, comments…)
      • Polling vs Interrupting
      • Proper usage of event handlers
      • Generate custom events
      • Building a time driven program
      • Using background threads
      • Array manipulation
      • Simulator : advanced techniques and limitations
      • Approach to debugging
      • Introduction to JavaScript for micro:bit
      • Introduction to Python for micro:bit
      • Introduction to C for micro:bit
      • Understand what micro:bit is : a reactive system (or micro:bit vs Arduino)

Who should join?

Prerequisites: this session requires a understanding of CoderDojo coaching approach and a basic knowledge of micro:bit

 So we gladly welcome:

  • Coaches who already have some experience of CoderderDojo coaching and micro:bit
  • People who just attended the Coderdojo bootcamp

What do you need to bring?

  • Laptop

All of the sudden nominated for a Nobel prize? Or you decided to go hiking in South-America for a year? Maybe a last-minute surprise party (we hope one for you)? No worries, it happens. But if so, please be cool and don't forget to unsubscribe, so other coaches can get the chance to subscribe.
