CoderDojo Session 22nd April 2017
Sat 22 April 2017, 11:00 – 13:00 BST
Derry CoderDojo hosts computer skills workshops for kids aged 8-18. We cover a wide range of topics including HTML, mobile applications development, games development, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Lego Mindstorm and much more!
All sessions are free to attend but you must register your place in advance to ensure adequate mentor provision on the day.
All of our mentors are volunteers and we do not receive funding for our dojo. Therefore we appreciate any small donations towards the running costs of the club.
All attendees under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event
You do not need to print out your Eventbrite ticket - we will have a list of registered attendees.
Keep up to date with upcoming events by signing up to our newsletter: http://eepurl.com/2wj0D
Can anyone register to join Derry CoderDojo?
Everyone is welcome to become a member of Derry CoderDojo. We recommend that kids are aged 8 and over but we sometimes take on younger children if they can read and seem able to manage the tasks. You need to register as a member on our official CoderDojo page. This allows the CoderDojo Foundation to keep track of our member count. This is available here: https://zen.coderdojo.com/dojo/gb/derry/derry
How much do sessions cost?
It is free to attend our Saturday sessions but all donations towards running costs are much appreciated. Sometimes we facilitate events on behalf of other organisations and these may incur a cost. Also, we occasionally host fundraising events and appreciate the support of all our attendees at these.
Do I need to attend with my child?
Yes, due to insurance reasons all children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times for the duration of the sessions. If you do need to go somewhere you can arrange with another parent to look after your child in your absence. Mentors cannot accept responsibility for unaccompanied children.
My child has special needs, can they still attend?
Our sessions are open to everyone, regardless of their personal circumstances. We do our best to accommodate all children and have some experience in mentoring children on the autistic spectrum. However, we are acutely aware that all children are different and therefore if you have any particular suggestions of how we can help your child specifically, let us know and we will do our best. You can speak to one of the mentors or if you’d rather discuss privately you can email us at email@example.com
Where do sessions take place?
Our sessions take place at Magee Campus of Ulster University in the computer labs (MF124/125). This is in the MF building to the left of the main car park. The door will be locked as it can’t be opened from the outside at weekends but if you wait at the entrance shown below one of our mentors will come out and let you in.
