About this event

  • 2 hours

This session celebrates the intersectional diversity of our local community and examines how this can be voiced within the frames of education. Participants will interrogate a series of learnings from a three phased community engagement project on diversifying education to see how we can best utilise new knowledge with our Brunel operations.

The Conversations of Diversifying Education: Voices from Local Communities (CODES) project aims to create opportunities for Brunel to learn to listen to community perspectives and then act on that learning within the context of education.

CODES is built around three main steps:

  1. Engagement of school pupils across the West London area in concept workshops,
  2. Co-development of new imaginaries of diverse subject expressions, and
  3. The exploration of the broader context of diversifying education through a public Question Time panel event hosted by a key community partner, the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy.

This world cafe session will openly and constructively challenge our own practices by examining how we can learn from those most affected by the limited educational experiences: students and their teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to share their own best practice knowledge and experience and discuss how we can develop Brunel's profile as a leader in challenging thinking and in driving change in educational diversity.

This event is part of the Brunel Research Festival, which returns this May for a packed programme of online and in-person activities, celebrating how Brunel's research is changing society for the better. Free and open to all.
