Coercive and Controlling Behaviour - Conference
Thu 23 March 2017, 10:00 – 17:30 GMT
The Serious Crime Act 2015 created a new offence of controlling and coercive behaviour in intimate or familial relationships. This offence closed a gap in the law around patterns of controlling or coercive behaviour in an ongoing relationship between intimate partners or family members.
However, this potentially powerful new legislation is much underused with large areas of the country reporting no prosecutions.
Join us as we take this opportunity, through the leading expert, Jasvinder Sanghera CBE, to approach greater survivor engagement and moving complex issues into a framework of child and public protection. Hear directly both from survivors of coercive behaviour and nationally recognised experts in the subject.
We will also be joined by Christian Papaleontiou, Head of the Home Office Interpersonal Violence team at the Home Office as well as a Senior Representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This is the first of its kind, a one day conference, led by Karma Nirvana, the UK leaders within the field of forced marriages and honour based violence, supporting men and women nationally. Karma Nirvana are hosting this conference with Sancus Solutions, the UK’s leading dedicated Investigative Skills training Company.
