About the conference

Families want a healthy environment for their children to thrive and develop their own wings. This year, we celebrate the 30 years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. For the occasion and with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) in mind, in Helsinki on 3-4th October 2019 under the Finnish Presidency of the EU, COFACE Families Europe and Vaestoliitto (the Family Federation of Finland) will host a gathering of family professionals on the topic of shaping a healthy environment fit for children. This is an open conference, and we are aiming to gather between 80-100 key stakeholders from Finland and Europe.

This meetup will start with a Spotlight on Finland on 3rd October, in Vaestoliitto premises, taking a look at the work to compile evidence-based approaches to supporting families, followed by a welcome reception hosted by the Mayor of Helsinki.

Then on 4th October, there will be two formats for learning and connecting people: Open Spaces and Networking Hotspots, at the hotel Scandic Park. The Open Spaces will be led by one speaker taking a specific practice as a starting point for discussions, innovation and exchanges with participants from other countries. The Networking Hotspots will be open to all participants to hear about a wide variety of projects (from practice to research) on the topic of child health and well-being during the lunchbreak.

Practical information

- From the airport to the hotel: There are multiple transport connections operating from Helsinki city center to Helsinki Airport. You can find up-to-date information about the routes at HSL website. The easiest and most practical option to go from the airport to the hotel is to use the bus line 415 and stop to the Hesperian Puisto bus stop (200 meters by foot from the hotel Scandic Park). It should take around 30 minutes and cost 6-7 euros.

Please note that the conference on the 4th of October will take place at the hotel, whereas the session in the afternoon on the 3rd of October will take place in Vaestoliitto premises.

- From the hotel to Vaestoliitto premises: either you walk 21 minutes (map here) or you take the tram 4 at Hesperian Puisto stop and you stop at Studenthuset / Ylioppilastalo and walk 5 minutes (map here).
