Celebrate and examine Black hair through painting in this workshop that combines artistic practice with thoughtful reflection on the cultural, social, and political dimensions of Black hair.
We will consider questions such as:
- What makes hair “beautiful,” and whose standards define it?
- Can choices about hair be understood as acts of social or political resistance?
- How does the tension between assimilation and authenticity in hair choices mirror the struggle of living in a world that often marginalises Black bodies?
This workshop offers a safe and inspiring space for participants to connect with their creativity while examining the ways Black bodies are shaped, perceived, and regulated by societal standards.
No prior painting experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity and creativity.
