Speaker biography
Noel founded VATangles as a specialist legally based VAT consultancy in 2004, following a career in VAT spanning 40 years. Beginning his career at a Solicitor’s Office and then as a VAT Officer for HM Customs & Excise, he went on to set up the regional VAT practice for KPMG in the East Midlands. He also worked in the VAT Financial Services Team at Deloitte Haskins & Sells, advising organisations including the Bank of England and the Stock Exchange.
He was the Technical Director of VAT consultancy Liaison, which acted for over half of the NHS, and ran the technical arm of Saffery Champness, advising the charity sector. His final role before setting up VATangles was as Nationwide VAT Partner at ‘top-20’ accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young.
Noel leads a team of experienced VAT consultants to offer a wide range of VAT services to charities and agricultural societies, as well as healthcare and education organisations. An expert in both UK and EU VAT law, Noel is the consultancy lead in proactive VAT solutions, challenging HMRC’s interpretation of the law and leading on the litigation of VAT cases in Courts and Tribunals.
