Collaborations Workshop 2020 (CW20) - #CollabW20
Event Information
Description
*** Tickets for CW20 have now sold out! Apologies for any inconvenience. ***
The Collaborations Workshop 2020 (CW20) brings together researchers, developers, managers, funders, publishers and trainers to explore best practices and the future of research software. The themes of CW20 are Open Science/Research, Data Privacy and Software Sustainability.
Because of the rapidly changing situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided to change the way we are running CW20. The in-person event that was due to take place at Queen’s University Belfast from 31 March - 2 April 2020 has been cancelled, and we will be running an online virtual event in its place. We hope to return to Belfast for CW21.
CW20 will now take place online using Zoom. You will need to install their client, which is available for Windows, MacOS and Linux, and make sure that it is updated to the latest version. Once you’ve installed the Zoom client, you can test your microphone and camera interface with Zoom here. We highly recommend joining the conference with a good quality headset with microphone. Specific instructions and links on how to connect to CW20 will be sent to registrants via the email they registered with on Monday, 30 March.
As the event will no longer be in person, we are reducing registration costs from £250 for a complete ticket to £50 (or £25 per individual day). This still represents an amazing opportunity to (virtually) meet researchers, researcher software engineers and many of the new Software Sustainability Institute’s Fellows, and explore Open Research, Data Privacy and Software Sustainability. We encourage all of those who previously could not make the journey to consider joining us online.
CW20 will continue to follow the unconference philosophy - where attendees get to choose which proposed discussions get to happen, what problems they solve in the collaborative ideas sessions and hackathon. In addition there will be lightning talks, keynote addresses, speed blogging, demo and collaboration sessions. We will keep you informed of all updates and connection details, as we explore this unexpected opportunity to trial new online collaboration techniques!
The CW Hackathon forms the last part of the workshop, which allows participants to realise the ideas coming from the Collaborations Workshop. Successful hack projects need not all be code - they can include any combination of software, specifications, guidance and other materials - thus enabling people from all backgrounds to participate. The Hack Day will focus on topics related to the themes of the workshop. There will be prizes for the best team efforts. Remember good hacks are cool, better ones are potentially impactful.
