As we all embark on our journey towards a new world, we explore how local authorities as key commissioners of architecture are working in collaboration with RIBA architects and developer teams across the South West.

Collaboration and learning from others are two key factors that will lead recovery across the South West. We want that recovery to be people, place and climate led.

Today we bring you three case studies of local authorities working with RIBA architects on sustainable, design-driven placemaking projects and initiatives. Our three case studies highlight different and complementary approaches across our vast region.

• Cornwall | Louise Wood, Service Director for Planning & Sustainable Development, Cornwall Council on West Carclaze Garden Village nr St Austell; and Langarth Garden Village, an ambitious Cornwall Council led project to create a distinctive community for 8000-10,000 on the edge of Truro.

• Gloucester | Cllr Andrew Gravells Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing Strategy at Gloucester City Council on the Driving up Design initiative seeking to increase awareness of good design and encourage developers to raise standards in the city.

• Exeter | Emma Osmundsen, Managing Director at Exeter City Living and Richard Marsh Project Director, Liveable Exeter at Exeter City Council on the Greater Exeter Plan which included a role for the RIBA Future Place programme. And Exeter City Living's passivhaus project programme.

Following our three presentations, there will be an opportunity for our speakers to answer questions posed by our viewers.
