Collagraph with carborundum workshop
Overview
What to expect:
Collagraph printing involves creating a printing plate from a peice of card. The smooth surface of the card can be peeled away, scratched into, or have low-relief materials glued onto it (for example wallpaper, tape, thread). These different surfaces will hold and print ink in different ways, creating texture and tone.
During this workshop you will learn how to make a textural print using a range of materials, including a grit called carborundum which gives lovely velvety results. You will be taught how to create fine lines by scoring into the card, as well as having the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of materials. You will use oil-based printing inks, and high-quality printmaking papers.
Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring a packed lunch.
The workshop is run from the tutors garden studio - a light and spacious workshop with meadow views.
The tutor, Lizzie Wheeler, is an Oxford-based printmaker and a technician at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative.
What to bring:
- Packed lunch
- Water bottle
- Apron / clothes that you don't mind getting inky (the ink does not wash out)
