Event description

Description

Spend two creative days in the company of Yorkshire artist Alice Fox* in this experimental workshop. Alice often works with found objects and gathered materials. She has worked with metal items, leaves, shells, acorns, pebbles: stitching directly into or around these objects, weaving around or attaching them to cloth.

Taking an experimental approah, we will explore different ways to incorporate a range of found objects into textile artwork. Wrapping, couching, binding, stitching, over, under, through... Working on cloth and directly on / into objects, you will produce a serious of unique samples to take away and form a springboard for further work. Bring along some of your own collected items and see what potential they hold.

Participants are asked to bring:

  • A small range of fabrics to use as backgrounds - these can be any colour but preferably plain, and a range of fabric weights will be useful (cottons, linens and something with an open weave like netting or hessian will be useful too). Pieces don't need to be big - around A4 size is fine.
  • A range of threads of varying thicknesses (we will provide a selection too)
  • Any small found objects and materials you would like to work with - this will mean different things to each person. For example: seeds, sticks, washers, nails, tickets, feathers, keys, matchsticks, bottletops, shells, leaves...

Skill level: Suitable for beginners

Cost: £130 - includes some materials and equipment use. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

*Alice Fox is a Yorkshire-based artist with a fascination for the detail of the natural world. Working in print, stitch and weave and harnessing natural processes. She uses found objects and materials as tangible links to landscapes.
