About this event

Board games have gone on many journeys since they began more than 5,000 years ago – from ancient Egypt to Iraq, from the Roman Empire to Britain, across India and China, and along slave trade routes.

Focusing on the history of board games, this Collection Bites will follow the amazing journeys and tales of cross-cultural exchange that accompany these games, with a chance to play with modern day replicas!

Not enough board games for you? During the evening after this Collection Bites (6-8pm) will be the autumn launch of Museum Meeple – Manchester Museum’s family board game club, followed by select Saturdays at 2-4pm.

Collection Bites is an adult programme, however the content is suitable for all ages. The talks are approx. 30 minutes. They take place on the first Wednesday of each month in Manchester Museum's Research Studio on the Second Floor (accessible by stairs or lift).

Please note: Tickets are very limited. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your booking through Eventbrite, or email museum@manchester.ac.uk to let us know, so we can offer your place to someone else.
