Event description
An online presentation from Gawthorpe Textiles Collection showcasing some of our best examples of lace from the 17th to the 19th century.

About this Event

In this online presentation we will be showcasing items from our amazing lace collection. Lace was an area of textiles that was a real favourite of our collection's founder, Rachel Kay Shuttleworth, who was also an accomplished lace maker herself.

We'll be looking at high-resolution images to explore the very finest details of each piece; including priceless 16th and 17th century needle laces, gossamer fine 18th century binche lace and elegant Point de Gaze dress trimmings. Along with the design and techniques, we'll also be discussing how each piece would have been worn and what the lace said about the wearer.

The session will be run online through Zoom with the presentation lasting around an hour followed by time for questions and informal discussion.

The money we make from this event goes straight back into supporting our work with the collection: to use the items to inspire and educate people and preserve them for future generations to enjoy as well.
