Event description

Description

This session is open to all postgraduate research students, with priority given to College of Arts Students for registration.

This session, led by John Bull & Hope Williard, will be an extremely useful session for postgraduates, in which the importance of archival research will be considered in both a theoretical and a hands-on way. The session will start with considering the different reasons that might underlie the decision to access archival material, and the dangers inherent in the process of 'finding what you want to find'. It will also consider issues such as locating archives; different methodological approaches; legal matters; and the value of archives in the achievement of successful research bids. The bulk of the session will be concerned with accessing on-line resources, and will consist of both demonstrations and personal exercises. Archives allow us to access the past, but they are the gateways to so much future research.
