Collograph and Monoprint
Sun 4 June 2017, 11:00 – 16:00 BST
This workshop will introduce you to a quick and easy version of collograph which avoids the drying time associated with glue and uses relief inking methods to produce prints using an etching press. You will also be introduced to a monoprinting method using cut outs and stencils which can be combined with the collograph technique. Your tutor developed both of these techniques as the main part of his printmaking practice.
What experience do I need?
The one day workshop is aimed at the complete beginner or someone who has done one of our monoprint workshops and wants to add a new technique to their skills.
What will I make?
You will make a series of prints from up to 3 or 4 printing plates and any number of cut out stencils. In past sessions absolute beginners have made 20 or more prints.
Who is my tutor?
Mick Welbourn is currently the manager of the printmaking workshops of Leeds College of Art, where he has worked for more than twenty years. Mick was selected for inclusion in the Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition in 2011. In 2013 he finished his MFA at Leeds University where he was the recipient of the Wilhelmina Barnes Graham Printmaking Scholarship. Mick has recently been on a printmaking residency to San Antonio, Texas where he used some of the methods you will be learning.
Do I need to bring anything?
All the inks, papers, tools and equipment needed to make collographs and monoprints will be provided by Leeds Print Workshop. This will include relief inks and rollers, mountcard, tape, plastic monoprint plates, and paper to print on.
Students can bring sketchbooks, shapes, patterns or other images for inspiration, but this is not necessary – simple abstract shapes work well for both Collograph and Monoprint, and you can come up with ideas on the day of the workshop.
If I can't attend can I get a refund?
