Event description
A talk hosted by the Centre for Black Humanities, University of Bristol and BSWN to mark the launch of the MA Black Humanities.

About this Event

BSWN is delighted to be working with the Centre for Black Humanities, a research centre at the University of Bristol which supports and promotes research on the artistic and intellectual work of people of African descent. As part of the Centre’s programme, speakers from a range of academic disciplines are invited to speak about their research at events which are open to the wider Bristol community to attend.

For February, we are delighted to be partnering up to host Professor Olivette Otele, who has recently started her post as Professor of History and Memory of Enslavement at the University of Bristol. This event also marks the launch of the MA Black Humanities . There will be an opportunity to meet with staff who teach on this programme and learn more about short courses and foundation-level courses at the university.

The evening’s agenda will be as follows:

6pm Registration, drinks reception and buffet

6.30pm Introduction and talk by Professor Otele titled ‘Colonial Histories and the Challenges of Scholarly Activism’

7.30pm Q&A session with audience

8pm Closing remarks and close of event

We look forward to welcoming you on the evening!
